Q: I’ve just moved to Kentucky. How do I register my vehicle?
A:
Provide title from other state (if there is a lien on the vehicle and the state holds the title you can come in and we will request for that state to release the title to us)
– Proof of Kentucky insurance
– Proof that sales tax was paid
– Vehicle inspection done by the Sheriff’s Office
Q: How long do you have to register a vehicle after purchasing it?

You have 15 days by law to register a vehicle after the date of purchase
Q: How much does it cost to transfer a vehicle from a family member?
A:
If it’s a parent, grandparent, child, husband/wife, aunt/uncle gives you a vehicle registered in Kentucky you do not have to pay sales tax. If the title is registered in another state and coming from a close relative you will have to pay sales tax as Kentucky does not recognize out of state family members.
Q: How much does it cost to record a deed?
A:
$50.00 for the first 5 pages and $3.00 for each additional page plus $1.00 per $1,000.00 for deed tax.
Q: How do I get a handicap placard?
A:
There is a form that your doctor will need to fill out and sign. You can pick up that form from our office. Handicap placards must be obtained in the County of resident.
Q: How can I get a disabled hunting & fishing License?
A:
You will need to bring us a copy of your award letter from Social Security that is not older than 6 months of when you present it. We will fax it into Fish & Wildlife and they will mail you a card in the mail. When you receive that card you may come into our office and purchase your license for $12.00.
Q: How do I apply for a marriage license?
A:
Both parties have to be present and provide proof of identity. The fee for a license is $50.00 and they are good for 30 days.

You may come into our office and fill out a voter registration card or you can go online.

Monday & Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Q: How do I become a notary public?

Go to this website, fill out the application form, and pay the $10.00 application fee. You will then need to get a bond through an insurance company for at least $1,000.00.
Recording fee to file the Notary in the County Clerk’s office is $19.00
Q: Does the seller have to come with me to transfer a title?
A:
No. If the seller has completed their part of the title and has signed and had their signature notarized, then the buyer may come and transfer the vehicle without the seller.
